I want to go back to school in the spring and I really want to rush a sorority, however im just not sure if they will except me. The reasons I dont think they will except me is 1. I'm not a twig like the rest of them. 2. I'll be 24 this August and 3. I am already married! But joining a sorority is something I have wanted to do for a while now. Do you think I should go through with it or will I just be wasting my time?

National sororities want members who will be committed to their organization for the four years they are in college. It is illegal to "cut" someone from recruitment based on their age or maritial status, but they can release you for low grades. It is very unusual for someone in your position to want to join a sorority, so be prepared to answer a lot of questions.

If you are planning on going through recruitment as a 24 year old, you will need to have a high GPA and plenty of extra curricular activities on your recruitment application.

Contact your universities office of Greek Affairs and ask what the minimum GPA is.

Joining a sorority is a HUGE commitment. It takes up quite a bit of time and you will be required to do a certain number of service hours, study hours, etc. a week. I had a wonderful Greek experience and I hope you will be able to experience the same joy I did.

Like you, I knew I wanted to join a sorority eversince I was in high school. I'm currently a freshman at college and I have decided to rush starting february 1st. Everyone within a sorority is unique in their own way. At my campus there is a broad spectrum! There are your typical jocks, girlie girls, and so forth. There's even a girl with dreads. So the look varies lol. I'm black and there's not many of my kind in greek life, but its' something i've always been passionate about. they will accept you for who you are and what will you bring to the table. if you're a good student that's even better. Honestly, everyone has their own style mon-friday...just look good when it counts ie. formals, the rushing and period and the like. Sisterhood is vital, but everyone bumbs heads every now and then. I plan on rushing for Alpha chi Omega or Zeta Alpha Tau...just make sure the one you pick is nationally affilated. It's not going to be a cake walk, but you should give it a try.

I do not know of any national sorority that takes married women. I know some who concealed their marriage and got through and some who got caught. I know women your age who joined and for the same reasons as you. So I understand. Not being a twig may be a good thing.

Best bet is to find one you like and go for it. I knew some girls who were married and in a sorority, some may have rules or issues but others will not.

It will be an uphill battle but go ahead and try. Do your work ahead of time and try to make friends with some of the existing members. Don't wait until rush to make that first impression. Be prepared. Best wishes and have fun!

well i don't think it's really good to join a sorority...bad things can happen, as I was told.but you should decide for yourself.join one that you think will accept you if you really are going to join.
