because sexual reproduction combines 2 sets of dna, while asexual is just a replica of the parent. with the combining of dna, sexual reproduction creates more diverse offspring suitable for adaptation...hope i helped;)

With each generation there are mutations in the genetic code. With sexual reproduction you have more genes from each parent with a random change of getting a particular gene, think like how parents have kids that all look different yet alike. This is genetic diversity. These mutation get passed down. The next generation gets the mutations and then may have some of their own. In genetics, mutation is not always a bad thing. Mutations are what cause diversity.

Imagine it like this. A mother has the chromosomes HJ and the father has LO. The possible combinations that the child could have are HL, HO, JL and JO. This is the diversity. In humans, there are 23 pairs of chromosomes and each of these pairs will have a similar combinations to the example above meaning there are numerous combinations the child can have. There is also "recombination" where during one of the stages of meiosis, paired chromosomes will swap parts of their DNA. This is of course simplified. Also, in terms of genetic diversity, sexual reproduction is compared with asexual diversity. Asexual reproduction is basically forming a clone. This means that the DNA is the same. Even after 10 generations, the only genetic diversity that occurs is if any mutations occur (as they are all clones).

Sexual reproduction increases genetic diversity for many reasons. When sexual reproduction takes places, you are combinging 2 sets of DNA. In asexual reproduction, you are just making an exact copy. Whenever you have sexual reproduction, you can combine recessive and dominant genes allowing for numerous different traits to be born. Such as eye color, hair color, and illnesses. Whenever asexual reproduction takes place, there will be no diversity at all. Sexual reproduction also allows room for error. You can have many different mutations that allow for diversity.

Sexual reproduction increases genetic diversity by allowing for more possibilities of differences in the offspring's genetic make-up. Asexual reproduction normally allows only genetically similar offspring, whereas sexual reproduction allows many different combinations of genes which produces genetically diverse offspring.
