I will be driving my van and it will suddenly downshift but not die. But sometimes it will just die and I have to pull over and put in park and it starts right up again. ANy ideas on what is wrong with it.

Are you sure it's downshifting? Does it run fine at an idle and then once you push the gas it wants to die? If it's doing that, it could be a clogged catalytic converter or a bad fuel pump. It's hard to diagnose without actually driving it or getting more indepth details.

Sounds like it's the transmission. My car was doing that just two weeks ago. One new transmission and three grand later things are better.

Hello, you need to be more specific. For example: temperature, during acceleration or when stopping. If you smell anything, does it on the freeway or on streets. Type of ban, engine, year, etc.
