As always it does depend where you live - what country / state / etc
In the UK, it is presnetly 16 to buy - but the government have decided that in the interests of supporting tobacco smuggling, they will raise the age you have to be to buy tobacco to 18 - thus ensuring that all younger smokers are compelled to give their trade to the black market.
Funny really just how stunningly stupid governments can be sometimes - they already acknowledge that people under 16 buy cigarettes - so quite how altering the age will stop them is beyond me.
In the UK ***** OVER HALF ***** of the rolling tobacco bought has been smuggled into the country. Yep, you DID read that right, it is OVER HALF. Now they will make the same true for cigarettes too.

The government has confirmed that it will raise the legal minimum age to buy tobacco from 16 to 18. Though I dont think a child can be procescuted for smoking at any age. specially since in UK under the age of 10 children cannot be prosecuted for muder no mind smoking. As a previous person mentions the legal minimum age might be 5, but that would mean the childs parents being prosecuted not the child

Why would you want to smoke? Smoke doesn't make you look cool in any possible way. It just makes you stink and gives you lung cancer.
Just saying. o_o
I cant find anything about it being illegal to smoke when you are 2 years old but you cannot purchase cigars until you are 18.

It used to be 16, at least where I live. They raised it to 18 several years ago.

You have to be 18 to buy cigarettes and even though states like Florida are trying to implement penalties to the underaged smokers, no such penalties exist as yet.

i belive most states the age is 18 now. but penalties vary from state to state.
in texas it is 18 to buy, 18 to possess. period.

it is not against the law to smoke or possess tobacco at age 16
it IS against the law to sell or give tobacco to anyone under age 18

just dont smoke My finace smokes and had half of his kidney removed from a cancerous tumor, hes in his 40's , the doctor said it was from smoking so if you want this just keep on smoking, all I have to day is that is sucks
