I read that too and got a little laugh.

but then I thought of this publishing secret: if an agent isn't interested in your query but the second paragraph, they never read the smaple pages. I think that this was probably the case. the agents probably read the query and were either not interested or thought it was too close to P&P and didn't even look at the ms.

I think that it really shows how little agents pay attention to the queries and how VERY important it is to hook the agent.

Lol that only reflects my opinion that the publishing industry is entirely subjective. Kudos for the agent recognizing Jane Austens work

Well, it is quite surprising. But then every one cannot remember evrything. So they may have forgotten aout Pride and Prejudice. Maybe they had recognised it as well, and didnt own up.

This work had to be rejected. you cannot, of course, get away with someone else's work.
