a mousetrap baited with peanut butter. works like a charm...ive actually set one down and stood and watched a mouse come up and get caught in it...took like 10 seconds.
or you could adopt a cat...there's a win win situation, you get a companion and mouser and the cat gets a home and someone to spoil and love it.

im my experience peanut butter is to easy for the mouse to lick off the trap without setting it off. I use butterscotch chips that are for bakeing. Hold the chip in your hand for a bit and it will get soft enough to force under the bend of the bait tray of the traditional spring loaded mouse trap. The butterscotch smells very strong and attracts the mouse much quicker than peanut butter.

A cat is the best mouse trap and deterrent.
But if you are not fortunate enough to have a cat, a mouse trap with peanut butter is the best enticement for the mouse.

This is what works for me: Put a glue trap near the hole where the mouse comes in, or just near where you saw it, close to the wall. It always works for me. The only thing bad is you have to kill it when it gets caught. I put the whole thing in a airtight jar with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol (mouse dies happy) and throw it in the trash.
I know it sounds kinda macabre, but it works for me when traps don't.

We had some success with a glue trap.. However, I would guess the spring trap with the peanut butter would be good as well... We have kids/dog so we used the glue..
