That is hilarious that you ask that now... someone actually asked me about this today! Our instructor says no......

It depends on the instructor. I've been at dojos where it's allowed, and others where it is totally forbidden unless you've got a medical reason. As a side note, (don't mean to sound preachy, sorry if it does), a martial artist isn't someone with natural leaping, punching, and/or kicking abilities. It's someone who dedicates themselves to it and consistently comes to class with a positive attitude until they get to the level they want to achieve. The most difficult thing you will EVER learn, in any martial art, is how to keep coming to class no matter how good your excuse. So don't worry about having to lose weight, or feeling subconscious. Martial arts is for you, and should never be something you 'have' to do. Hope that made some kind of sense! Have fun and good luck!

you don't have any bleach or soap at home?
No you can't wear socks in a martial arts class, not if you're one of the participants. You'll need the suction of your feet on the floor to do the moves.

I'd be curious to know if you wear socks into the swimming pool.

It's generally not done.
Plus, if you wear socks you'll likely get ginourmous blisters on the bottom of your foot.

Sadly.. no... =( I wish though.. i HATE walking around in my dojo >.< DIRTY!! But...stepping in a pool of sweat with bare feet is better than stepping in a pool of sweat with socked feet.. that way it'll just dry. but it's still gross! >.<

No, you slip easily. Everyone has to wash their feet and put powder on them before class anyway! You'll be okay, don't worry!
