There is alot to do there. You can go to the moody gardens and then there is schliterban water park. There is alot of old neat historical homes along broadway and the strand has some neat shops. You can take some tours of some of the old homes. It just all depends on what you are looking to do while your there.

I have been going to Galveston since I was a baby! I am used to the beaches! They are fine! They are not as nice as the beaches in Florida, but for a 40 min drive to a beach its not that bad!
The beaches infront of the San Luis are kept really nice and clean, we own a condo at The San Luis as well, you can also rent a chair and umbrella there too!
If you are looking for a nice place to stay I reccomend the San Luis, if its not in your budget there is a Sun Spree Holiday Inn on the east end of the island!
There are lots to see and do in Galveston, dont let all of these other people distract you from wanting to go!
As a matter of fact I was just in Galveston this past weekend! The weather was great! The beaches were nice!!! Good Times!!

I went to the Maritime College is Galveston for five years. The beaches on the West End of the Island are typically less crowded, nicer beaches and better folks. You can go into Pirates or Jamaica beach subdivision and park your car near the beach. The water is warm and does have jelly fish/stingrays. Talk to a local lifeguard in town to get the latest statistics on the marine life. No lifeguard stands on the West End. Few restaurants, hotels and bars in this area. The bars and restaurants can be found on The Strand, 21st Street or the Seawall. Beautiful historical homes and buildings on Broadway and the Strand area. Luigi's has good Italian, Rudy and Paco has good South American, and Seafood is good every where(Wishermans Wharf). Have a great time, but don't set your expectations too high. muffin

I was there recently (February) for a trip with a bunch of friends. We rented a house on the beach. The house was beautiful and with all the amenities you'd need. We were farther down on the beach and the taxi to get to any of the bars was around $30 each way. Therefore we didn't see any of the nightlife. We did go to a local restuarant there and it was nice. It depends on what you are looking for - not really some place to party but to hang out on the beach was nice. We did see a few bums in the downtown area. Watch out for the jelly fish on the beach!

The beach is nice. But are areas that are clean and some that are not so clean (trashy). I think that areas has more people. When we go, we go early to be the first ones there, but we also leave early about 9 am or so. Have a great time while you are there!

Go to Moody Gardens and downtown for shopping. I like Seargents Beach and the East End the best. The trashy part is also the busiest part. Keep going east and do try the local restaurants for amazing seafood.

The water is (not gonna lie) gross ......but there are other things to do .... you could visit the strand and shop or take a tour of Moody Mansion, or the Bishops Palace, or visit Moody Gardens which is just lovely.....see an Imax movie while your there and visit the rainforest. You can visit Pier One or any of the other well known stores and shop or just go hang out and get some sun .....try surfing on the little pathetic ways :) ...it's worth a try. You will have a lot fun .....there's always something to do. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Not sure this would be my choice for a beach to go to but it's fair.
Depending on the wind and sun as well as currents, it can be fair to poor as far as a beach. I am not into swimming in the ocean so it's not such a bad thing for me but if you have kids, go to Destin, FL for the best!

to me it's fun, but the water isn't as pretty as miami beach or any other beach like that. i guess because it's part of the gulf.
but yeah, they're are alot of fun things to do over there. there's also a sclitterbahn nearby!

well it all depends on where u go some places the water is nasty like a brownish color and can't even see the bottom and usually feel something on your legs but can't see what it is, that's why i don't go there anymore just take a few more minutes to go to Texas City the water there is clear and they have beautiful beaches and is worth the trip but that's just my opinion.
