I have just recently moved to Taiwan. I bought a HP laptop before I left the states with a wireless card. Now please excuse me for being wireless ignorant but how do I now in Taiwan connect? Do i ned to set up an account with a wireless provider? Do I get a wireless card? I would like my laptop to work wherever I want bust specifically at my apartment and at the school where I am teaching. If anyone can guide me through this or has any suggestions I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks,

Meagan

Dear Meagan,

I think you may try the HP support for the hardware and software.

If you need to repair and upgrade you may want find it at the local repair shop, you may want to call (02) 8722-8000. They will be able to help you. Please press 2 and then transfer to 7. According to the HP website, they suppose to speak English as well.

Once the hardware and software are ready for on-line connection, you will need internet connection.

Do you have ADSL service in your apartment? You will need to set it up. They will send you the hardware for the setup.

There are several plans out there.

Unfortunately, you may have difficult time communicating with them (in English).

PS Once your laptop is ready for wireless, you will need to ask your colleague if there exists specific username and password for Broadband: Wireless Network Connections (under Control Panel of your window's START).
