My son will be 2 years old next month and isn't really talking. He babbles and says a few words here and there, but I see other kids his age talking in full sentences. Other people say he should be talking by now too. Should I be worried?

Don't be worried. They go at their own pace... I know people who have 2 year olds that talk full sentences like you said, and I work for a Dr. who has a 2 year old (3 this month I think) and he really isn't talking. He's as smart as can be though. They all develop differently. Really, don't worry.

My son is 28 months (a little over 2) and has his own language. He does say some words that resemble English. I get discouraged sometimes too when I see children younger than him talking up a storm but I know he will talk when he is good and ready to talk. Try reading and communicating with him as much as possible. I also try to have my son repeat words back to me. Good luck!

my sisters little boy is 3 and my daughter is 2 and she talks better then him but the doctor told her to give him a couple of years. if hes not talking better when he starts to go to school there are speech classes so don't worry he may just need more time. you never know in a couple of months he might talk more than you want him to so just be patience some kids catch on fast and some dont. good luck

Honey, kids talk at different ages. Some children don't start talking very good because all they have ever heard is adults talking baby talk to them. Always talk in a slow adult talk, not baby talk, and pronounce your words clearly. He is going to be just fine, so don't worry. If you are really worried, then take him to your pediatrician and they can tell you if anything is wrong. hugs

If you have concerns, talk to your pediatrician & let him/her know exactly what is going on. They will definitely know if there is anything to be concerned about, and if so, they can refer you for the proper testing. Many children in this age group do sometimes need a little "push" and a little speech therapy--- it sounds scary, but it is really not a big deal, and most kids take to it like little ducks to water.....
Don't worry!

He's going to be fine. As long as he's babbling and talking a little, I wouldn't worry. Mine first waited until he was good and ready then exploded with speech. It'll come, now that we have three I wish they would just be quiet every once in a while!

No you shouldn't be worried. I didn't even start mumbling words until I was about 3 1/2 and I turned out fine. So no, you have nothing to worry about =)

Well breast milk is best. I should think that it would be a hell of a lot more nutritious for your 2 year old than any other milk. Thank you for this post - I breast fed my son for 14 months, and was bullied my family and social pressure to stop feeding. I feel really guilty about that as I now regret stopping. My son is slightly intolerant to dairy produce, so reading your post has made me think I could look into relactation and express for him! Thanks. I hope everything goes well for you

Kids move at different rates. But usually some are talking very well by two. And, no, you shouldn't be worried. But, if you are you can go get his hearing checked.

My nephew was the same way. He ended up being diagnosed with autism. Not to say your son has autism, some kids just develop later than others. You should take him to a doctor to get checked out for any delays.
