The Dr. took xrays and said his brain and skull are normal but his plates were a different shape. She said the skull has been forming like this since he was in the womb. Sam was a big baby so he was pretty crunched in there. Anyway, they said as he got older and was able to crawl and sit up it would reshape. It doesnt seem to look much different to me. Should I worry?

Sam has been crawling and sitting up for a few months now. The inital xray was taken when he was just a few months old. He is 9 months old now.

If the Dr said it would reshape then I wouldnt worry about it but if you are really concerned call the Dr and ask her questions about it. I know my neice had that flat head syndrome and it reshaped.

Lots of flat heads nowadays because they are supposed to sleep on their backs. My grandson had a flat head and wore a helmet for several months- unfortunately it was started too late- 8 months- and didn't do much good. It should be started by around 4 months. His head is still fairly flat on one side- he's almost 5 now- but his hair disguises it (unless it's wet) Als, I am a nanny to am 18 month old girl whose head is flat on one side. She did not wear a helmet and her head is still flat. So, maybe it will reshape and maybe it won't- too late to worry aboout it now!

Becky:
My won had and has a flat spot, you have seen him in the picture with the a.m. bulldog, we tried different Dr's made calls to Houston, and the cost to wear the special helmet was overwhelming!
He has plenty of hair to cover it up, I wouldn't worry about it unless Sam looks deformed or odd . Luke has no problems with his head (and does not look deformed) so we have learned to live with it. By the way he is 4 years old now.
Bottom line it may or may not shape up.

My son had to be seen by the neurosurgeon because his head was flat. Yes he was rolling but not enough pressure was helping his head. So he was given the helmet. 2000.00 out of pocket. Insurance does not cover it. My best advice would be to hold your baby as much as posisble. I got used to the swings and vibrating chair, and didn't hold my son as often as I should have.

I would ask your doc again. The neurosurgeon has to refer you to a helmet clinic. I wish you the best. This was a long and stressful process. His head is still flat, but nothing to what it was. The helmet helped a ton and my son got used to it quickly. Need any more help just email me. Good luck.

yeah it should reshape itself once the baby learns to move around more. I know my son never had a flat spot cause he never kept his head to one side he was always a mover in his sleep and he still is. In fact I switched his crib over to a toddler bed and at night have to use a crib bumper just so he doesn't fall out of the bed. It has happened a few times and we don't have the best of flooring. All my husband and I have for floors is a cheap piece of carpeting over concrete

I understand your concerns but try not to worry. I'm sure the problem will collect itself. Your pediatrician is only a phone call away, so let him hear your concerns.
