Why Governments (North America) fail to save people lives from handguns that kill??

Question

Government are too busy with paperwork or something that not focus on handguns issues to prevent killings everywhere in North America .. why bother we vote which parties to run but surely to keep homicide and police busy to find crime scenes everywhere .. that is not funny for destroy someone's dream whatever they want to be like as doctor or any career goals but poof .. gone forever to dust ... what can we do ?????

and other things look at west virgina college and high school in colorado .. that is ok to use handguns but who will kill next for stupid fun .. why not to learn self defenses classes or something that dont need guns ....

if you think handguns is ok in america ok what about kids shoot siblings by accident or steal a gun from home then kill someone so who will be saved then police can save them from guns butwhat if it is too late so let killing win becasue you never know what happened to you or your relatives !!!!!

i think that handguns is not the best answer to becasue of killing, commit suicide or cops make mistakes to kill kids thought they have guns but toy guns .. easy to buy guns whatever you want like videogames or just be number one killer to beat how many killings or whatever that is so i think guns is not best answers there are always another way to do without guns .. we can do it if you dont then you dont know the answer how to get rid of guns before kill you or others you love .....

I hardly know where to begin...
OK- Virginia college... if EVERYONE there had a self defense class- do you think the outcome would be different?
''kids steal a gun from home''...or car, or knife, or rabid chicken...what? it's the intent, not the tool.
cops killing toy-gun wielding kids- a terrible thing...but why would a kid try to threaten a cop with a gun[toy]? someone needs time-out. And supervision.

maybe guns are not the best answer...maybe it's not the best question, either. maybe there are answers somewhere.

Let's look at a few facts, shall we?

1. This is the United States of America, which is merely one country in the CONTINENT of North America. North America also includes Greenland, Canada, and Mexico. (If I am wrong about Greenland, I would appreciate another answerer correcting me. Thanks.)

2. The school you refer to is Virginia Tech.

3. Virginia Tech is a gun-free zone.

4. Gun-free zones, as you saw, do not prevent criminals or other nutjobs from owning or using guns. In fact, had a teacher or other authority figure had been on campus with a gun, it is likely many of the murders could have been prevented.

5. A friend of mine wrote an essay showing that there are many, many more effective ways to kill someone than using a gun. For legal reasons, I cannot post it here, nor can I give you the source. I can tell you, however, his name (so you don't think I'm making it up): Erik.

6. The Constitution (in the United States, the Constitution is the supreme law of the land) expressly allows the people to bear arms. Any attempt by the government to prevent people from owning guns or other arms is expressly against the Constitution and would be halted by the Supreme Court.

7. And last, as someone else said: guns do not kill people. People kill people.

Here in FL we have a big sign on the interstate when you drive in - it's a picture of a pistol pointed at you saying "Florida Residents Have the Right to Defend Themselves."

In Florida any citizen who is not a felon can get a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Since that law was enacted the violent crime rate has dropped EVERY YEAR to all-time lows. The bulk of the violent crime that remains is against tourists because the criminals know that they are not armed. If Virginia had a concealed gun law that allowed students to carry concealed weapons, maybe that gunman would have been shot before he could get reloaded and start shooting again. It ain't pretty but it's true. The government cannot protect us and you'd better darn well be able to protect yourself!

If you take the guns away from law-abiding citizens, then only the criminals (and police) will have guns. A good recipe for rising crime rates, which is what happens in places that have gun bans.

Umm, how in the world would self-defense classes had helped anyone at Columbine or Virginia Tech (which is in Virginia, btw).

the west virginia, pacudah, and Columbine shootings were not for crazy fun, they were out of vengeance and anger because people in the schools were so focussed on academics and athletics that they failed to pay attention to a few boys who were being picked on.

the states that have the strictest gun-laws also have higher crime-rates and higher gun-related homicide. in states like texas and florida, where people and freely carry handguns on thier person, there is very little of either because everyone has a gun and can therefore defend themself.

Sadly, you can no longer count on the Police to protect you. There are not enough Police Officers, they can only do so much. The only way you can protect yourself take a course and learn how to handle a firearm safely, and have a shotgun at home for your protection.
You don't have to fear the law abiding gun owner, who wants to protect his or her home and family. It is the criminals who will always find a way to get firearms illegally, no matter what the law is.
If you disarm the law abiding citizen, violent crime will be even worse, the criminals know they will not be able to defend themselves.

Guns do not kill people. People kill people. I do not believe we should ban guns. We've tried to prevent them from getting into the wrong hands, this is why if you have a prior felony on your record, you cannot obtain one.

are you saying that law abiding citizens, like myself, are irresponsible to the point that we'd allow children to get ahold of our loaded guns? are you saying that law abiding citizens have no right to protect themselves when the police are not there? are you saying that if insurgents overthrew our government, placed us under martial law, banged down your door in the middle of the night to take you away to some detention camp to be questioned as to your feelings for liberty and our constitution, that you should just lie down and let them overtake our country? that's why the 2nd amendment is in the constitution!

you should search the internet to find the crime rate in states where the right to carry firearms is allowed by law as opposed to the states where it is not allowed. then prove to me (my address is on my profile), with the facts you gather, that it is law abiding citizens that are running around college campuses, high schools, and becoming snipers or plain old stickup men. what if your wife were brutally attacked, raped, and maimed, and the police were nowhere to be found? don't you think you'd give her a firearm and make sure that she learned how to never let the criminal take the firearm from her? yes, there is a tried and true technique that you learn at classes held by the NRA and state rifle associations.
