nothing serious until about 16 but i think most kids have their "boyfriend/girlfriend" long before they even know what that means. My son is 4 and says his girlfriend is the girl next door. I would go with childhood bf/gf at whatever age but nothing serious until around 16 but even then nothing to the point of marriage/kids.

I'm sure some people will think this is "old school" but the rule for me and the rule I will have for my daughter is
-age 16 then the boy has to come to parents and ask to date her, the last part is more for the parents to get to know the boy.

Sadly my parents never had to worry about this rule, I was never even asked out until I was 19 and by then I wasn't about to worry about the rule.

I was in 6th grade (11) when I had an offical boyfriend. We didn't date, but we did go to the neighborhood park with friends. As long as you don't actually do anything with him, it's fine. I think 9th grade is a good time to start dating.

For a girl - 15 house date (boy comes over for dinner or to hang out, chaperoned) and 16 to actually go out on dates.

I hate to say it because as a girl it drove me crazy for my parents to have double standards - but I might set the limit a year younger for a boy (I have a son).

I believe that a girl can date when she is capable of handling a relationship. Girls are usually mature enough around 15 years old, but it really depends on you and what your parents say.

For my girls, it won't matter. heartbreaks and heartches at a younger age (like 10, 11, or 12) will toughen them up, and prepare them for the real deal. As far as dates, about 14 is good.

I was 4 whenever I had my first girlfriend. Our moms drove us to dairy queen and we each got a baby sized ice cream cone. She was a cutie.

Haha but 16 is good. Any younger and your parents have to drive you around, which is just silly.
