I think it is C too becuase antiquity means to go back to ancient times but didn't the renaissance ADVANCE the ways people thought?

Definetly D.
After the fall of Roman Empire, an involution followed, in both society and science.
Just to give you an example: ancient Greeks *knew* our planet Earth was spherical, they (Aristarchus, Eratosthenes) even calculated our planet dimensions, just using basic geometry.
Middle Ages are also known as "Dark ages" because a lot of great achievements went lost.
So, the need for a "rebirth".

The previous respondant is correct. But I think also the Renaissance artists when beyong the artists of the Middle Ages, who also focused on religious, namely Christian subjects. The Renaissance artists also had rediscovered many of the themes and tecnhiques of the Ancient World and incorporated these into their art.

D. Renaissance means rebirth so I would say d is right

Northern artists painted mainly religious scenes and paintings to do with religion. They used darker shades, versus the Humanist realism.
