you can love another person even if you don't love yourself....but then it brings some extra problems to the relationship. it is better if you love yourself, so that a heart-break wouldn't kill you, so that you can love that other person beyond your ability to love., so that you can start all over again with a fresh YOU.
so its always better to love yourself first. you give yourself a bit of respect....
:)
my friends have given wonderful answers... :)

If you have no love for yourself how can you give it to another if you have issues you need to work with those issues in yourself because even if another loves you you can't give them the love back if you do not love yourself first :)))How can you if you have so many issues in not loving yourself first :)))Once you love who you are you will attract the love that will last for a long time :))) & give your heart and get a better heart in return :)))

Yes you can love without loving yourself. I feel I love for others, to what extent-I don't know. But I do know I don't love myself like I probably should. However, the people that I know love me, show me what there is to love about myself. That's why I feel that you can love without loving yourself because sometimes things may not be obvious characteristics or whatever it be without someone pointing it out to you and explaining why they love that part of you.

No. If you don't love yourself you will be continuously depending on someone else for your self worth. You may think you love someone else but in reality you only love the way that person makes you feel. You love the kind of person you are when you are with them. Your preceived love for someone else will only be a reflection of the love you need to have for yourself.

Of course you can love another person. It just may be harder, because if you don't love yourself, or at least have a bit of confidence, you may not trust others to love you. But even if you don't love yourself, there's somebody out there that will probably find your personality to their liking.

It would be preferable if you loved yourself first.
I see people all the time care more for the other person and they are used up to the hilt by the other person.......
Loving yourself first, shows others that you are worth them and their time.....................don' go over board "vain"
But you can call it loving someone else if you are in a relationship, but most of the time the other person is in love with themself also!!!!
Slave love!

I think it is a good mantra but not always true. Some people loathe themselves and would jump in front of a train for another person. Personally, I'm a big fan of myself and I love many people as well. I think it helps.

If you live, that means you love yourself and take care of yourself, and I think you can love another person. On the other side, people who don't like themselves are hopeless, and have low self esteem, and i think they are hopeless romantics. Meaning, they might like the person, but never admit it or let them know.

You certainly can - but you will not be able to receive their love in return, no matter how deeply they love you or how they show you their love - because if you don't love yourself, you don't believe anyone else can love you.
