Lately my car has been making a "squishing" noise in the front end, especially when i enter/leave parking lots (the bigger the dip the louder the noise). I don't know if it's my shocks/suspension or maybe something else. How do i know what it is? I am going to be taking it to the automotive repair shop but i want to have some general information before i go there. Is it an expensive repair? Any info would be nice. Thanks

If the "squish" sounds like a gurgling liquid, I would suspect one of the shock absorbers has leaked fluid and now contains some air. Every time the shock flexes, a mixture of shock oil and air will squirt through the aperture inside the shock, making the noise.

If the "squish" sounds more like a mattress spring, I would suspect the springs.

Either way, you should get your front suspension looked at.

Could just be your shock absorbers, or the other related item, the Mcpherson Strut (combo shock and suspension strut ). Usually a second person is handy to diagnose this. You can also find someone knowledgeable to help you diagnose it, because if you go in not having a clue, you could be taken for a financial "ride" by the shop. Good luck! - The Gremlin Guy -

With the vehicle parked, engine off, on level ground, push up and down on the front of the car real hard and then let go, if car bounces more than twice the shocks are bad. If the shocks are making the noise you should hear noise when you're doing this. 90% chance it's your shocks/struts.

It could be the rubber mounts on your struts, if it is, it's nothing serious, if you can live with the noise just leave it.
