How long does it take to become one and what is the average salary ?

To become one, you must first become an attorney -- 4 yrs college, plus 3 or more years law school. Then you have to be in practice for a while, and noticed for being really darn good at what you do.

Then, you may get promoted to a lower court -- eventually, you can go as high as Supreme Court Justice. Keep in mind, though, there aren't too many of those.

And the salaries are not great -- you would make more as an attorney. Judges max out in the $200,000 range generally.

You don't just decide to become a judge - you either get nominated to be one, or elected, depending on what type of judge and your location.

Your best bet would be to start by getting a law degree and practicing law, becoming well known in your area, and making it known that you want to be a judge.

Salaries vary a lot depending on what level of judge you are.
