They're fillers for right now, so that the manga can get far enough ahead to make into episodes. Right now you have enough for maybe a dozen shows and then you'd have more fillers in the middle of the action. I'm sure we all love when they do THAT.

It is going somewhere at the moment. The only reason they went into filler mode is because they will soon catch with the manga... again. The manga is... well I don't know if it is on the middle or halfway to the middle of the arc. There are still many other Espadas to join the fight and show their abilities.
