Not at the expense of any top prospects. Maybe I would trade Hawksworth or Narveson or Reyes, but only for an established starter with at least two years on their contract.
I think it is time to write off 2007 and letting some young guys play and see what they got. Maybe audition Hawksworth or Narveson with a few starts, or give Troy Cate or Tyler Johnson (once a starter) a few opportunities.
Unfortunately, playing young guys has never been the LaRussa way - all the way back to his Chicago and Oakland days. Rumors have been rampant that LaRussa and Jocketty may both resign at year's end. They have done so much during their tenure, but I think a change could be good.
So to make a long answer short - no, I would not make any such trade unless we happen to go a minimum of 5-2 against the Brewers and Cubs next week.
If anything, I would start shopping Eckstein, Percival, Taguchi, Springer, etc. just to see what is out there.

Yeah Carpy is gone for the year. He might be gone for next year too. Then what? Will he ever come back? You never know. I love the guy and hope for the best.........as far as a trade for an experienced starter this year......nope. It ain't gonna happen. And Mulder...they are not going to rush him back at all. Save him for next year. I think the management is going to cut their losses for this year and evaluate what needs to be done for the future. Like someone else said, Edmonds is getting old and hurt often, Rolen is always hurt. So Taguchi is getting old......Its basically a time will tell thing for the next year or so.

The Cardinals are not going to be buyers this year. I believe they could make some moves in the off season that will have an impact for next year. The have a good core group of players and they just won the world series last year. No need to panic and they should be competitive again next year.

for an experienced starter, you'll have to give up Major League talent. Who would you give up? Pujols, obviously not. People wouldn't want Rolen or Edmonds - too old, too often hurt. Would you be willing to part with Molina? Duncan? Eckstein?

The Angels sent Santana down to the minors the other day. He would be a bargain as long as you don't have him pitch during road games.
