If you can market to them or the crossover adults who also enjoy those items you could do it. Now taking your hatred too far can and will likely limit how successful you can be if you are unwilling to try and gain feedback from test groups of children. Also not listening to or really trying to know your 'market' will hurt you, in so far as changing with the trends.
I'm sure plenty of designers etc 'hate' or more likely care very little for those they are designing/building for but so long as they don't let that stop them from getting what they need from their market they can do well. It's all about what you let your personal feelings do to your career, plenty of people hate their jobs or don't 'love' them but put that aside and do them anyway.
If you can put your hatred for children aside and do whatever it takes to be successful you could do fine.

Well, I think that if you DO become a toy designer, you will have to be prepared to work with kids. They test out your products, and you might have to talk to kids to see what they like and get into their mindset to create new toys. If you hate kids that much that you're not willing to talk to them, then I'd say no. If you just don't want any of your own, that's fine, go design some toys!

well if you hate kids, i think yes and no, because well youre a toy designer, and kids are going to have to test them, its not like a 90 year old man is going to come and see if the toy is fun, and also you'll thank the kids IF your toy goes on market, because the kids will be the ones begging their parents to buy it for them.

i would think that you would have to like kids even think like a kid a little to design toys
but action figures can be a collectable and in the mean time submit some designes to the bigger companies and see if you get any feedback
tyco,tommy,hasbro,ertl
and the like all you need is one toy to hit big And you set

In all honesty you must spank them with a belt. I know a lot of people say you have to treat them with love, and not to be racial but this most apparent in caucasions. And their children are the ones that usually turn evil and psychotic later on, no offense but it's somewhat true. I was a bully when i was younger, my dad spanked me till i cried and ever since i've been good. Now I actually stand up for the victims of bullies, so believe it or not spanking does work!!!

I'm probably going to be in the minority here, but I don't think loving children is a prerequisite for designing toys. Creating a great toy requires imagination and artistry. If you've got it, you know it. So use what you've got and do what you love doing.

you want to design toys for an audience that you hate...? it's kids that you hate...?
you can be a successful toy designer, but you'll be completely bankrupt in the morals department. what do you care, though?

why not? give it a shot.. i never thought of that as a career but it's good idea though.. i mean you know your strength and weakness and you know your interest.. then go for it.. dolls, action figures and games are not only for children only..
