How many credits were you taking per semester? My first semester I am taking 15 credits and the most common advice I hear is to study 2 hours for every one hour in class. Obviously, some people study a lot more than 2 hours and some study significantly less. I am trying to get a good idea of how to establish my study routine so I can fit extracurriculars into my schedule, so I'd appreciate any people who could share their experiences.

In addition, what kind of grades did you make with the time you spent studying. Would you have studied more or less?

My first semester I took 15 hours, and my second semster I took 12. I took an equal amount of hard and easy classes, but I pretty much studied a total of maybe 6 hours a week? I got a 4.0.

I didn't really have to study hard until I was in my second semester my junior year. THAT was a tough. My last semester I spent 40 hours each week studying.

The average units taken are 15 per semester regardless what classes they are in. 12 units are the minimum for full time. Some hard charging students will take 16 to 20/21 units but often the extra are in elective classes which are usually easier but they don't do that the 1st semester. The Floral Design sounds like an easy A so it may not be that hard to take 19 hrs but that is up to you to decide WHEN you actually enroll. Take a look at the college catalog and their requirements for guidance. You are not "locked in" because some adviser gave you a list, you need to make a decision how many units and what classes you want as long as you take mainly core subjects.

I took 12 hours my first semester. I spent about an hour on each class a night. I got two A's, one B, and one C. The two A's were almost easy courses. I should have studied more, I regret it.
My second semester of freshman year I took 15 hours. I spent about hour & half on each class. I got two A's, two B's and one C. I could have studied more, but it wouldn't have made that big of difference.
I suggest one or two extracurricular activities, if you add more, you might interefere with study time or relaxation since you need sleep.

My first semester i spent about 7 hours of week "studying" for 16 credits. The main reason I didnt spend more time is that your first semester you should be out meeting people, joining clubs doing activities etc. I ended up with a 3.07. Second semester I averaged about 10 hours a week and got a 3.76.

With all honesty, your courseload will be relative to the classes you are taking. If you are taking alot of liberal arts classes, expect alot of reading, papers etc. I try to balance out my schedule between liberal arts and math/science so I'm not overwelmed.

i got good grades during my college...specially physics :)
regular days - 1-2 hours is ok, just scan your lessons for the day and during exam week...about 5 hours for all the subject (i'm taking 25 credits) and that's for three days before the exam...and a little bit of scanning 15minutes before the actual exams...:)

but, that is up to you...how you do it your way..

good luck
