That would be the "Simple Life" where it is more edited than live. Big Brother is also more controlled than Survivor. The people are pulled in and out of the diary room to set up people talking to one another. So the scripting is there but there is some element of live behavior in the show.

One answer (not necessarily the correct one) is that scripting does not necessarily mean actual words said.
Actors commonly build a back story, often in discussion with the director, that supplies reasonable detail to support what happens in the script often in a lot of detail. ("My character screams a lot and reacts badly to women so I see him has having a mother that screamed a lot.")
When improvization is done, the actors are given some kind of background and make up their own words and scenes.
Thus a "Reality Show" could be scripted by carefully describing the characters to be involved with backgrounds, dress preferences, language used, etc., and the actors hired might be coached separately as to roles and attitudes toward the others and then let loose to use the words they create. Role-playing.

I am proud to say that I have never seen a "reality" show and don't plan to start tuning-in EVER. If something is scripted or situations are 'set-up' then it is NOT a 'reality' show- it is simply a show with people who are not professional actors.
