ANZAC (the Australian New Zealand Army Corps) was mistakenly landed at this small cove on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey on April 25, 1915 by British transports, and were immediately attacked by Turkish troops. But, they managed to push the Turks back so they could safely unload their supplies. During the 8 months-long battle for Gallipoli, this cove became their main base, and it was Gen. William Birdwood who suggested naming the original landing site "Anzac Cove".
During these 8 months, the beach itself became a big supply dump; 2 field hospitals were established--one on either end; 3 wireless radio stations were established to keep in contact with the fleet; and soon the amount of supplies became so huge that they overflowed onto the nearby beaches (Brighton to the south, and North Beach beyond the headlands of Ari Burnu). The cove became a popular swimming area for the troops, and only the worst shelling by the enemy kept them from it. It also became a struggle to supply fresh water for drinking, and even worse for washing. The troops were evacuated in Dec. 1915. The area since then has had terrible erosion problems. There is a memorial there erected to honor the troops of both the Anzac forces and the Turkish troops who died there.

I'm pretty sure it was April 25...check the records in History books and online.

If one person says against and the majority says for, you can be pretty certain which is the true answer.
