Rivers flow from higher elevations to lower elevations. They can flow in any of the compass directions.

If a person is lost along a river, walk downstream. Most rivers have cities along their mouths. This does not hold true for rivers in Alaska. Many of them flow north, into the Arctic Ocean, where only the polar bears live!

River travel from high to low pressure and that doesn't mean they travel in same direction, it all depends on tide. When its high tide the river gets flooded (flow from sea into river) and its low tide river water flows and joins sea.
Now rivers can't tell you north or south as they are in all possible directions, for north south direction I would say see the sun and figure out where is east and west.

No
Rivers run down hill. If you know roughly where you are you can get a clue, but the sun overhead is a far better source. If you have an old analog watch with hands, you can actually figure it quite closely using a Boy Scout technique.
While in the midwestern US most of the rivers tend southerly, the Nile and the Fraiser in Cananda are examples of rivers that runs straight north

I do not know, but it may be 1 of 2 possibilities.
1. In the Nothern Hemisphere rivers run north, and vice-versa in the south.
2. West of the continental divide, rivers run east, and vice-versa in the east.

Most rivers run generally south. However, there are ones that run North and east-west etc.

You want a north south direction?

Pick a stick in the ground. in the morning the shadow will point generally west. In the evening the shadow will point generally east.

Knowing any one compass direction will give you the others.

No, but if you're west of the Rocky Mountains, all rivers eventually flow west, and if your on the east side, they flow east.

Eventually.

North Star is more predictable, though!!
