Well my laptop crashed...and a friend got it turn on ATLEAST,which I am greatfull. But he said something like my windows XP needed a serial #. Although everything seems to work BUT....now it doesn't have sound. :( SO....it reads no audio devices. WHAT can be the problem? Should I take it to a professional or there something I can do??PLEASE HELP! Thanks to all who help!

i dont have any cd, i got the notebook from school and they did everything.

It looks like your friend used the auto-repair function of XP. Your drivers may have been deleted. You need to reinstall ALL drivers that were in a separate CD that came w/ your laptop.

you need to check in device manager to see if your device drivers are splattered ( not installed). Go to my computer> properties>device manager then look under sounds and if there is a yellow exclamation point then you have to reinstall the sound driver. Your laptop should have come with a disc with stuff on it one of those things would be device drivers if not then go to the manufacturers website look up drivers for you model and os then download it.

try a system restore go to start- all programs- accessories- system tools- system restore and then restore your computer to a day or two before the crash.
