When a person has more than one personality, and each of the personalities has a name, where do the names come from or how do those personalities get their names? We're currently praying for a woman with a number of "child" personalities who is involved in a satanic cult, and each of the "children" has a name. I just wondered who names the other personalities.
(And yes, this woman is seeing a psychiatrist)

Usually people with split personalities have suffered prolonged trauma or severe momentary trauma. The other personality develops as a way of protecting some part of themselves. The other personality develops because they escape the trauma by receding someplace within themselves and then sealing that part off from harm. The other names just pop up and are probably names the person likes. Having more than one personality is very rare.
