Most presidents have pardoned politiical favorites probably to protect their own reputations. Why should the president have a right to pardon those who have been convicted by a jury of their peers? The message that goes out to Americans is one of failing morality and elitist priveledge. Why do our leaders continue to pursue and create the environments for our decline?

Why is it that republicans always resort to the " yeah.but Clinton...." statements when a question like this is asked? Clinton is a moron and he did break and abuse laws. Bush has done the same. Why don't you dipshits just face that and recognize that republicans are no better than democrats and we need serious change in our government?

This whole pardon issue has been abused - even if it is only one really bad criminal who is pardoned...that is one too many. BTW, Bush pardoned others right after his first election. Not only did he pardon them, he gave them jobs in his administration.

To all the goofy conservatives posting about Clinton's pardons, remember the vast majority of his pardons occurred as he was leaving office.

You can't make a credible point (not that all your carping about Clinton in order to excuse Bush's cr@p ever makes sense as you always claim inherent superiority) by comparison until Bush has issued his billion pardons when (if) he leaves office in 2009.

you feel its decline because WORKING americans wont allow liberal extremists to rewrite the consitution. the presidential pardon was put in place as a check and balance against punishment deemed harsh. when you look at marc rich and the eleventh hour clinton fire sale its obvious who took this out of control but you never "happen" to hear about that do you?

An article on why it was included in the constitution might help answer that partially: http://www.usconstitution.net/consttop_pard.html
