It is kind of typical for any rumor at Disney. People get a hold of it, tell someone else, next thing you know there are a hundred different variations of the story going round on the internet. Some people just get their facts messed up and others just over exagerate and make things sound a lot worse.

Anytime a rennovation, refurbishment, change, etc. takes place at Disney the rumor mill gets a rolling and there is no telling what will come out of it. I've never seen anything quite like Disney when it comes to, well, just about anything!

Spaceship Earth is not being replaced, it is however, going through an extensive refurbishment. The ride portion is going to be updated and they have finished putting in an interactive area as you leave the attraction. What you may be thinking of is that part of the refurbishment is that they are taking down the EPCOT sign that is attached to Spaceship Earth. Spaceship Earth is going to go back to it's original form from when EPCOT first opened.
