Lately at work I've found when questions are asked or decisions need to be made I purposely wait for the introverts to add their comments/opinions. I find that if others will make all the decisions they're ok with that. They would rather be quiet then get shot down or something. I'm trying to understand this and how I can be a better friend/coworker etc. as I am an extravert/leader...

I too am a extrovert leader...

I found that instead of waiting for the introverts to speak up... I stat my piece of mind/idea then ask "What do you think about that 'Timmy' I am not sure if its a good idea, I would like your opinion on it"

Sense introverts are use to others making decisions for them, you taking an interest in their opinion might give them a bit of self esteem and make it easier for them to voice their opinion in the future!

That's not always true. Sometimes "introverts" simply don't get the chance to speak because the extroverts are always cutting them off and interrupting. You're doing the right thing by making sure they have the opportunity to speak out. If they still don't have anything to say, perhaps they simply don't have an opinion on the subject. I used to be more quiet than I am now, but I always had an opinion. You can't go around assuming that all quiet people are thinking or feeling the same way.

Well I don't think you can change your personality, but how about if you make a suggestion and then ask what others think of it, or if anyone has an alternate suggestion. Don't ask if they have a better suggestion cos then it sounds like you know your answer is the only one possible.

That would be like asking a tiger to change h/her stripes to spots! WHY on EARTH are you supposed to suppress yourself in order that others can speak up!!! Live up to your abilities and go with the manner of expression you were born with!!! You might want to taper back if you see your ideas are discounted...but stick with your talent and don't discount it!!!
