I would love to see gay marriages allowed, and after 5 years work out the divorce rate of both gay marriages and straight marriages and see who is more likely to get divorced. I'm betting that gay marriages wouldn't have a worse rate as things can't get much worse but would probably help improve those stats.
As for why people care so much about it - it seems that some people just can't keep their noses out of other peoples business, and unfortunately it seems thats the case for most things. How many people buy magazines each week just to read what their favorite celeb has been up to - its the same idea, people want to know things about others and believe they have a right for some reason and that if they don't like what some else is doing its their "right" to voice their opinion about it.
Its wrong when cause of the person you love, the basic rights which are afforded to most people are stripped away - its wrong and in this day and age uncalled for. With all the problems in the world we should be encouraging love, encourage all the good things like that - not the other way around.
berryfremont - I'm heterosexual and I have no problems with people who are gay or lesbian, and I only wished they had the sames rights that we did. As for them not being able to reproduce - haven't you heard of things like, "sperm donors" and "sperm banks" - most gay people know people of the opposite sex so while its not possible for them to get pregnant between just the couple, they do have means to reproduce, and I would rather see the world with kids from gay families than kids from your family, where they are full of hate and unjustified prejudice.

I was married for fourteen years. I came close to getting married a second time; it fell apart three weeks prior to the wedding. I subsequently met another woman that I felt quite close to. We lived together for about six years, and then for the next 22 years or so we lived two doors apart. We are not as close as we once were. Can't live with 'em? Can't live without 'em? Live near 'em. No, I would never consider living with anyone else. Of 100 married couples in America, 25 would leave this afternoon if they could find the door. Fifty have longstanding issues which will always interfere with their relationship. 25 are blissfully happy and cannot think of a better way to live. These are all couples who have gone through courtship, screening, counseling, the advice of friends and family. Twenty-five per cent success rate. Baseball players who are considered successful reach first base thirty per cent of the time.

barryfreemont, you are ignorant. Seriously.
Love is love, man+man, woman+woman, man+woman, whichever.
People considering gay couples bad parents are some of the worst kind of people. I like to think I prove this belief wrong. My mom was in a committed relationship with another woman for most of my growing up, and I turned out alright. And no, you bigots, I'm not gay! That's right, they don't necessarily produce gay children! But if they do, so what?
Marriages simply did not move down the "sanctity-meter" now that some cities are wising up to what is right. They never will.
There is NOTHING wrong with it!

I think you are absolutely right. Marriage is viewed by some religious people as a religious institution, but it is actually a legal arrangement. So why are some people dragging their religion into what should be a simple matter of human rights? Oh, that's right...because we are supposed to be "One nation under God." Nevermind the fact that this country was also established with religious freedom in mind. I guess religious freedom only applies if your religion is the same as that of the people in charge of the country. It doesn't bother me at all if gay people get married. Does it threaten my (hetero) marriage in any way? Of course not! It is all just so silly to me. Let the religions that are against gay marriage say that gay people can't get married in their church, but let's not let them tell everybody else how they should live their lives.

I don't understand why homosexuals cannot marry. It angers and disgusts me that America preaches about UNITY and we don't even try to support the people who live in this country with us. I've never been as angered with politics as I was when I heard George W. Bush state that it was "un-christian" to give gay people the right to marry. Who gave him power of God? Why did people vote this predjudice man into power? I don't care who you are. If you are in love with someone and want to marry them, you should have that right. You shouldn't be denied that right just because both people in the realtionship have a vagina. Ug, this topic makes me angry. Sooner or later, it will happen. And I'll do everything I can to help give everyone EQUAL RIGHTS.

Wow, nicely said. I total agree. I believe that everyone should do what makes them happy. I also believe that there is no sanctity left in marriage if Brittney Spears can have a 12 hour drunk marriage and it's excepted. When two men/women who have been together for years plus can't even get married.

This happens because
1. These people were brainwashed as children.
2. Religion.
3. People are just close minded in general.
4. They're secretly jealous of our gayness. Hey, I mean, gay means happy right? =D!

every body has to fight for what is right. once they do then every body will be used to it. look how long it took for black people to gain civil rights, for native americans to get their property back, for atheist to not have prayer in school but a moment of silence. equal rights is equal rights, it just takes time. once its done everybody will move on. nothing is gain without a fight

Being (self-)righteous apparently gives you the right to inflict yourself into anyone else's business - their bedrooms, their classrooms, their minds.
It'd be a great day if fundies learned the meaning of the words "respect" and "tolerance."

Aight answer me this. If it weren't for heterosexuals you wouldn't be alive. Would you have liked it if your parents were gay? Oh wait, nobody's parents were gay because they consist of a mother and a father. Lesbians and gays can go around and have sex with whoever they want but the word marriage IS A LEGAL binding between a WOMAN and a MAN. You can't rewrite the definition of a marriage. OK, let's not go on Christianity, but on Darwin's words. If all of the world turned gay then the race as a whole would become extinct. Survival of the fittest states that those who multiply will stay alive. Gay's won't multiply and are the weakest of our race and therefore we don't want to give them priveledges to turn our race upside down. All heterosexuals dislike gays. So next time you think someone understands that you are gay know that us heterosexual people think you are all a disgrace. I'm not gonna preach to you about religion, because i think you wont listen. Therefore, try and see how everyone thinks you are the coachroaches of their houses or the rats in the kitchen. BLAH comes to mind everytime. You can change, so do it for the sake of procreation and to keep your gene pool going. IF you stay gay then your gene's will die with you.
