Coercion
The most obvious form of motivation is coercion, where the avoidance of pain or other negative consequences has an immediate effect. When such coercion is permanent, it is considered slavery. While coercion is considered morally reprehensible in many philosophies, it is widely practiced on prisoners, students in mandatory schooling, and in the form of conscription. Critics of modern capitalism charge that without social safety networks, wage slavery is inevitable. However, many capitalists such as Ayn Rand have been very vocal against coercion[citation needed]. Successful coercion sometimes can take priority over other types of motivation. Self-coercion is rarely substantially negative (typically only negative in the sense that it avoids a positive, such as undergoing an expensive dinner or a period of relaxation), however it is interesting in that it illustrates how lower levels of motivation may be sometimes tweaked to satisfy higher ones.

Stress works in a strange way to motivate, like reverse psychology. When under stress and difficult situations, a person feels pressured. This may trigger feelings of under-achieving, which results in a reverse mindset, to strive to achieve. This is almost sub-conscious. The net amount motivation under stress may motivate a person to work harder in order to "compensate" for his feelings.

Psychologists differentiate between this constructive form of stress, called eustress, and the unhelpful state of distress.

I don't have any actual statistics, but I'd say it's used far too often. And, in far too extreme ways.
There are, however, some cases where it is not only acceptable, but necessary. I think that an entity with an inferior position or a significant vulnerability could possibly gain leverage against a superior, but less organized opponent, with a well executed strategy which includes coercion as a component.

Perhaps the best example is the military, fighting forces and armies. Certainly, a fierce fighting force could not be motivated by bonding around the campfire and roasting marshmellows. It would seem as though coercion is a necessary unpleasantry required to build such a fighting force.

You guys are useing too many words, I can't help but tune out or get confused. But I think what your talking about here is "the fear factor" Stress is not a positive motivator, in fact! fear again is the culprit. We all live in fear as it is the only consistant. And as left over thought, I invision a new born baby being raised but it's feet and smacked on it's bottom in order to motivate it's first breath. Imagine that! No wonder we fear death.

why would you need to use coersion unless it was a dire emergensy,
you mean does anyone understand why people talk to each othe rand know they dont know how each other feels
well that is why we live together and never talk about it, because we make our choices based on the influence of our uncontrolable world around us,
and if we have no need to share our true ideas with each othe r, it shows our pre occupation, and how we would love our life to look to others well surprise it aint so,

coersion and the other one, are two difrent thigns that outh sid ethis wolrd will do diffrent things, so if you need to know it nee dto fix all our entire lives ritght, or is it judsst a poopup, curoisity to hear what we will find out, in the future after we die, why dpo people behave like they are not to underrstand hwre their idea d come form, welll it i a place of opinion, but it is also the way our body lookds and what it does makes you thinkm it can be used for things not around,
if we have the right to our bodies , what respect level does it show to ask others questions from their daily life to help us use ours, thosae are simple to understand and are around us every day, and god knows people who want to never forget that but in this ruined world we need to remember that if others are on other planets they might be perfect people besides god, becuae it is not our place to deside from this little world of life , everythigneveryone will eve rkonw,
and if we think it impasible , it must not exist,
in a worlsd that belongs to us we sure dont deserve to ever come back,
and if we think we are right ouis we better do somethig a bout it,
but if ever a prtob;lem was solved instead of forgot, then it weas a desent time in history that maybe we all missed, and we never have thought of that, we only need to get through this life, and if theyer is nothing more important than what we can do all day, then it must not be in sight,
if you dont want to be called of god, he will never look after your future, what you think is the end of your little idea fest, is the time you need to think about becaus eif you dont youll remember you r desions forever, and everm, and it might be too late
if i thoiught this didnt make any sence then i would not have wrote it and if i knew everyone would understand it how could you know everyone understood it and if you think iw ant to hear that you cant read that is dumb, and i f iwrote nothing but letters why would you not come up with a better thing to say, and if i can tfind you to explain what i meant then you think people doint remember you and that makes me feel better,
we nneeeed god here sooner to answer our personal problems , or to explain why the world is so barren except to opinions,
