PCS (personal communications service) is a wireless phone service similar to cellular telephone service but emphasizing personal service and extended mobility.

It was originally designed for a "mobile" user and is still used for "Cellular" technology.

In the beginning, cell phones were called:
Mobile phones

PCS came out to give users more options than mobile phones. Its technology is still used today and is a good plan in my opinion.

Now if you mean a Metro PCS, Its a phone that works in Urban Areas, Or Major City Areas. Like Detroit, Dallas, Boston. For whatever State you live in. Now, the farther you go away from the Major city areas, the less likely your phone will work. Metro PCS comes in Pre-paid and monthly, at least in Michigan (where I live). But if you mean what is a PCS phone. Its basically a phone that you can do, Internet, Text Messages, and pretty much anything to do with being contacted digitally.

PCS phones are simply any cell phones by Sprint, whether prepaid or not. So when they tell you that your PCS to PCS phones calls are free of charge, it means any phone call made to any sprint cell phone is free of charge.
