I've been on a MacBook Pro for a half a year, and I've discovered that many Mac users lie on Y! Answers.

They say that Macs get no viruses. Yet, I've at least got one serious one, and a few pop-ups have managed to come out.

That Macs offer OS X and Windows support - the best of both worlds. Running Windows on mine didn't work out so well, and I gave up. Plus, isn't it kind of cheating for Apple to do that, but not allow OS X onto other machines? Kind of a cheat to me.

They also make false accusations against Vista.

The UAC prompt only comes up a few times, and it eventually adjusts to the way you work, so that it doesn't pop-up that often. OS X has something similiar to this.

Vista performs badly. On crappy PC's yes. But high-end hardware works well.

Barely any compatiblity - I've got lots of compatibility. Just one or 2 things didn't work.

PC's are all bad. Not true at all. My Vaio works well.

Bugs are everywhere. Not!

So why do Mac users like to lie?

Before I even get to your question, I have to address something. Why is it that when you dare to speak badly about Macs, everyone instantly calls you a troll. I have seen plenty of people asking questions about how bad Vista is, or how bad Dell is, etc, and I rarely see them being accused of trolling. For the record, you made some very good points, points that happen to be true, and asked a legitimate question.

Now to the answer, you have to understand who is making these comments. The people that say most of this stuff are Apple fanboys, people who love Apple and simply have to convince everyone that it is better. There are a lot of Apple users who will be honest about all of Apples benefits and shortcomings, but others simply are in love with the idea of Apple, and will say anything to make it sound better.

Then there is Apple themselves, with there recent Apple vs. PC advertisements. Anyone who is being halfway honest would have to admit that some of these ads have been misleading about the facts, it would be hard to argue otherwise. As to why Apple does it, its pretty obvious, they are trying to sell computers. You are not going to get a very effective ad campaign out of saying, "please buy our more expensive products even though they have few tangible benefits."

There are areas where Apple is better. Most people would agree that in most media editing related applications, Apples perform a little better. They also are less prone to viruses, though as you found out they are not 100% free like some would lead you to believe. They also tend to have some nice designs for the computers.

But they have drawbacks, the biggest one in my opinion being the cost. They also suffer from the fact that the vast majority of software is made for Windows and will not run on an Apple. As you have found out, running Windows on a Mac is not entirely a smooth process.

To be fair, they are not the only one spreading the Vista myths you talked about, there are plenty of Linux users and Windows XP users who readily spread this garbage as well. But like I said, there is a large group of Apple users who are committed to spreading the "good" word about Apple, and will readily latch on to the anti-Vista myths.

So to answer your question, why do Mac users lie, the simple answer is that for some of them telling the truth simply doesn't fit there agenda, so that leaves them with little choice.

Hello, well I have several PCs and one iMac and I Iove them both. From what I have read there have only been 60 to 80 known viruses on record for all of Apples computers since day one. Apple computers are still the minority on the block and I guess it just isn't worth it to try. But it does not mean this cannot happen. There are anti-virus programs that are free for the Mac on the net. I was wondering why my iMac did not have an anti-virus program on it and I was told what I just told you. I have not heard much about how Windows works on the MAC. But I am considering buying the boot camp software where it makes it possible to run both. I agree that the hardcore MAC users are cocky and yes can be full of it when talking about the difference between the two. The MAC has alot of functionality I will say. But I am a computer technician and everything I work on are PCs. There is more to say but it is just personal preference. And don't let others influence your decision. Well, see ya!

Mac users don't go all over the Internet like people with a real PC.
It's like saying I don't get viruses with my Commodore or Amiga computer .

Yahoo Answers is not a place for Micro$oft fanboys to spread their opinions. Go to a discussion group for that. This area is for real hardware questions. Trolls should go somewhere else.

If you need to feel better about your personal biases, go get self-validation from your friends (just like what Paris Hilton does).
