i was actually talking about this at lunch...i went to a place that had tv's all over reporting news...and all of the channels had something about harry potter...i turned to my friend and said i couldn't believe that this country is at war and the most interesting thing to these adults and the newscasters is harry freaking potter...do people not really know what is going on in the world? or do they just not care?

They are well written books, with interesting story lines. There are better written books, with better stories, but this one has caught the public's imagination. The mania will subside.
The Da Vinci Code did the same thing, and that was not a particularly well written book. The only similarity between the two was that the church was the centre of the Da Vinci code, and Harry Potter was given a huge burst of free publicity when many schools banned it because it promoted witchcraft and magic. In both instances, the controversy propelled the books into the public's eye.
And the rest, as they say, is history.

I personally am not into Harry Potter. However, if Led Zeppelin were to have a concert in my town, I would wait a whole week without food and water in a line to go see them. Is that idiotic??? To each his own. Whatever floats their boat.

yes, it is idiotic. the mania, not the books. porple going crazy and waiting in line, and bootleging books and stuff. that stuff is crazy. but the books ARE good books. i'm 19 and i read the first book when i was 11-12 and i cant wait for the next (and last :( ) one. seriously, even though the books are targeted at children, they still have good characters and story for an adult. give them a try

It's the monkey see monkey do syndrome...what ever is popular that's what its all about ,no one wants to be different so they just follow the crowd and that's how "We the People" and all other people of the world have screwed up, everyone wants to be someone else, and can't be themselfs and they become so disturbed that they take drugs, any thing to fit in, and we, all the world is messed up and can't be fixed, except one way.....when Jesus returns.
I've never read one of the books, never wanted to...saw the 1st movie....didn't do nothing for me...haven't seen any others.

As idiotic as people waiting in 2 km lines to get an Iphone or being the first to see George Lukas new CGI, marginally-star-wars-related "movie".

To me it is idiotic but no more so than a person's lack of understanding and tolerance for what others think, like and believe. Judge not unrighteously that ye be not judged unrighteously.
