I am new to this politics stuff. I voted for Bush in 2004 mostly because it was easy to see where Bush is on the issues. I like Kerry but it seems he changed his mind every week on a host of issues.

Now I don't like any of the candidates. Rudy, Mitt, The Actor & McCain are boring and Barak and Hillary are not qualified. They have never led anything like a state or company or been in the military. They are just two of 100 senators. Big deal.

You don't think Hillary or Barak are qualified. But, you voted for Bush.

I'm not sure that running a state or a company should be a requirement for being a credible presidential candidate., and military experience isn't going to help much in the job of president unless the individual running had a position of high rank and real experience in leadership.

I think that the biggest problem with the American political system is that the requirements for successful election campaigning are much different from the requirements for being successful in office. George W. Bush was regarded by many political observers as being more likeable than Al Gore; he was described as the "candidate you would like to have a beer with." Likeable as he may have been (I never liked him; he seemed to be deeply shallow from the very beginning) he's proven to be a disaster as a president.

The reason good men are not running is becasue to get in a position to run for president one must sell his soul to the campaign financers. By the time someone is in office they are beholden to several interst groups . The party platforms are no longer idealistic representations of the peoiple in the party. The platform represents the wished of the financers of campaigns.
You are new to politics but you will soon find that we no longer run as a constitutional republic. Each branch of goverment is constantly trying to compromise the checks and balances installed by the constitution to gain power and influence over other branches..and they are succeeding. Just remember, whoever you elect is going to dissapoint you and you. How can they do this to the people that elected them? You didn't elect them..you voted, but the financers "elected"the president before you ever pulled the proverbial lever.

The best don't want a pay cut. Want to know why Al Gore isn't running? He's worth a hundred million dollars now... if he became president he'd make a lot less money - what's the point in that? Al Gore might not be the guy you would vote for, but its an example why some people don't run for president - financially, it might not make as much sense as staying in the private sector.

I honestly think it's the funding problem. As long as there is no restriction upon who can fund candidates you're going to have nothing but a succession of corporate stooges. None of the currently elected have the courage to change this so nothing changes. The military-industrial complex keeps sucking money out of the american tax payers pocket and the innocent continue to die.

Politics is disgusting, and the "best" people don't have the stomach for it. In order to win, you have to kiss a@@ in your party so much that you can no longer respect yourself. It also helps if you have shiitloads of cash. I was very turned off by the contact that I have had with party politics, makes you wish you could take a shower. (Both sides are just equally bad, although there are some reasonably decent individual people, the majority are just despicable)

Well, the sad reality, is that the American people don't have good enough sense to put a good person in office.

I was really hoping the good man Mr. Brownback would get it for President, but I guess the people don't know a good President when they see one.

Mr. Brownback is a good Christian man.

It's so sad the people can't see that.

The Best People don't run, because they are not Millionaire's. It is all about money. Many Poor People could do the job, as well, but they can't even get their foot in the door, because they are not Rich.

The thing is other people do run for president you just don't know about them because they aren't rich like the other candidates to advertise and such.

Hillary has the most credentials of any one. She is on the Armed Services Comity, she is a 2 term Senator, her 8 years as First Lady she worked closely with the President on many important political matters. I would say she is more qualified than most. To answer your question, until we demand publicly funded elections, the big politicians with name recognition are all we will have to choose from.
