I am not sure how it got in as all of the windows are closed. It was not in the house when I left. It was a tiny little bird and it scared me because I thought someone was in the house. I opened the sliding glass doors and shooed it until it flew out.

I am not superstitious, but there HAS to be a meaning in this. I have never had anything like this happen. I am going through a lot of ups and downs right now. Anyone have some old wives tale or ancient secret (other than the one about dying on snopes.com -- I saw it and I'm not ready to die! lol!)

I found this:
A bird that flies into a house, foretells an important message.
The white bird foretells death.

I hope it wasn't a white bird!

It could have come in with you through the door or one of your kids let it in accidently, do you have a pet door? The thing is it could have been in your house for a couple of days before you noticed it. I am all for signs and that everything happens for a reason but only you can determine that because all signs are of a very personal nature. I wouldn't try reading too much into it for it could just be that a bird got into your house. If it does have a meaning then you will know what that is in due time.

Birds signify intellectual things: those which are gentle, useful, and beautiful, signifying intellectual truths, some see birds are sent from heaven to comfort from past over relations

Birds and their meaning:

Crow: Crows carry a great deal of knowledge from the living world to the unknown and back again. They will guide you if you allow them to, but first you must still yourself and listen to the message the crow is trying to give you.

Hawk: Hawks have a very keen sense of sight, if you are sent a Hawk it usually means that you are seeing what you should be seeing from the other world.

Raven: Ravens are said to have keen senses of ESP and can either mean that you posses that gift if you are shown one or that you need to listen to the gift of sight that shall be bestowed upon you.

Eagles: Eagles are said to be the bird of the Goddess, to be shown an eagle or posses an eagle feather is a tremendous gift. You have many gifts.

Ducks: Ducks mate for life. If you see a pair of ducks, a male and a female together then it means that you either have your true love or will find them soon.

Doves: Doves are a symbol of love and peace.

Vultures: Vultures have two purposes. They can represent a death but their flesh eating nature also reminds you that from death, new life is born.

Owls: Represent Wisdom in all its forms. Worldly and otherworldly.

Love & Blessings

it depends what species of bird. most birds, particularly tropical ones do not have homing instincts. if you do this, they will be gone forever. the best way to keep birds around your house is to make the garden bird friendly. do some research on what type of trees the local birds like and plant them. also set up some bird feeders and water.... perhaps a couple of large ponds if you have the room. this way the birds will naturally come to you. the stalks stay around the zoo because it would have large shallow ponds where they can feed. .

There is no insightful meaning to finding a bird in your home. As humans, we sometimes try to attach deep meanings to meaningless events. Think about all the people who have had bats, birds, bears (in Minnesota) , crickets, squirrels, rats, mice, lizards, snakes, and the ocassional skunks in their homes. There is no mystery meanings to these events. Animals do sometimes get in. All it means is, you gotta get 'em out.

what kind of bird was it? this is very important. When animals show up in our lives in places they should not be then there is usually a meaning for it. I suggest you look up your bird friend in Ted Andrew's book Animal Speak.
