If it weren't for garlic cloves I would have been dead 8 to 9 years ago.

I had Stage 4 cancer. Cancer cells can't stand garlic. Each day I would grate two cloves and put it on a piece of bread along with one or two eyedroppers of a tincture made from habeneros peppers.

I'd cover the grated garlic with butter in order to calm down the burning qualities of the garlic and pepper.

I also took a tablespoon or two of emulsified fish oil each day. The cancer left town in less than a week.

Then I stopped, and three or four of more than a dozen lesions returned a few days later. So I did it again. Again in less than a week all the remaining lesions disappeared.

That's how powerful garlic cloves are. Yet there were no side effects other than watering eyes and heavy breathing for a minute or two (good for pumping the lymph clear.)

Imagine if there had been a drug that could do that...it would be the biggest news in medical history. You'd hear about it as the top story on the network news...all of them.

Good Morning America, the Today Show and every other talk show would be doing major stories. So would 60 Minutes, 20/20 and Dateline.

Since they won't do it, we have to do it. And we can do it. Together we can help solve the nation's and the world's health care crisis - one person at a time.

Garlic is very good for your immune system so can help prevent you getting a cold but as a cold is caused by bacteria and garlic is anti-bacterial so can help your body to fight the cold. As for swallowing half a clove being bad for you i would seriously doubt that half a clove is a small amount; you would have to chew it raw to get results. Studies by Garlic Information Studies support it as a natural remedy for cold as reported in The Guardian.

SSY's got the best answer of the one's available for me to review before I came to answer you. Also, F. Perdurabo's got a good answer too. But SSY's answer is more comprehensive and accurate to some extent. I don't know specifically what factors of your heart it helps best, but I've eaten garlic for years with that knowledge, and my wife taught me the one about the effect eating garlic has on getting rid of mosquitos and other insects. As you continue eating garlic, not only your breath, but your body will truly begin to smell of garlic. That's why the bugs will stay away. But then, it may keep certain people away from you too since they may smell the garlic emanations from your person, and react favorably or unfavorably, consciously or unconsciously. And as a retired mental health professional with 20+ years experience, I have paid a lot of attention to peoples' conscious and unconscious behaviors. Oh, and all this reminds me of the "pop quiz" about eating garlic. Here goes (you may have heard it already, but . . .)
What cures onion breath? Garlic.
What cures garlic breath? Nothing.

God Bless you.

For one thing it's a natural antibiotic on some level.

And another thing that's good is that it's a blood thinner. So ESPECIALLY around that time-of-the-month for us girls, it can help thin the blood and make less clots (which means less pain).

There also are a few other benefits, but most were already mentioned.

I met a man who had been eating crushed raw gralic everyday in the last 20 years. He said he never had any major health problems. He is 70 years old and can put a 20 year old to shame.

I trust gralic has healing powers. But its really the way one consumes it. It is known to reduce cholestrol problems and to unclog artheries. It is also a good anti-cancer food.

Nine Ways Garlic Keeps You Healthy

1. Attacks Atherosclerosis
Imagine trying to walk through thick, gooey mud. Now imagine that same mud oozing through a straw, and you get an idea of how cholesterol can damage your arteries.

As cholesterol builds up in your arteries, your heart has to work harder to pump blood through them. This leads to high blood pressure. High cholesterol and high blood pressure help trigger atherosclerosis, or thickening and hardening of the arteries -- the leading cause of death in the Western world. In fact, heart attacks happen when one or more of the coronary arteries get too clogged or completely blocked.

By lowering cholesterol and your blood pressure, garlic protects your arteries from potential disaster. Garlic also slows the stiffening of arteries from potential disaster. Garlic also slows the stiffening of arteries that happens with age. One study of healthy adults ages 50 to 80 found garlic helped keep the aorta, the body's main artery, elastic.

2. Clobbers Cholesterol
Like a nutritional super hero, garlic goes after your bad LDL cholesterol without harming your good HDL cholesterol. The result is less fat built up in your arteries, lower triglyceride levels, and generally healthier circulation. Just a half to one clove of garlic a day (or an equal amount in supplements) may be all you need to decrease your cholesterol levels.

3. Brings Down Blood Pressure
With less cholesterol causing traffic jams in your arteries, your blood can zip through your body more easily. That means less stress on your heart and lower blood pressure. Studies show garlic can actually bring down your blood pressure by several points.

4. Crushes Clots
Ajoene, along with garlic's other compounds, stops your blood from clumping and clotting. This keeps your blood flowing more smoothly and reduces your risk for a heart attack or stroke.

5. Cripples Cancer
In China, researchers discovered people who ate a lot of garlic had fewer cases of cancer in the stomach and esophagus than those who did not. It is probably not a coincidence.

Garlic's hard-working antioxidants, including its sulfur compounds, vitamin C, and flavonoids, capture free radicals and keep them from damaging your body and causing cancer. Allicin and its many sulfur compounds also order more of your body's mighty immune cells into battle. These tiny soldiers kill tumors and cancer cells.

Experts keep finding more evidence of garlic's cancer-fighting powers. A Penn State study demonstrated that garlic and selenium prevented breast cancer in animals exposed to a strong cancer-causing substance. Other studies have linked eating garlic with lower risks of colon, prostate, skin, bladder and lung cancer.

6. Banishes Bacteria, Viruses and More
When penicillin was scarce during World War II, Russian soldiers used garlic to fight off infection. War-time studies also showed that soldiers who ate garlic had fewer cases of dysentery than those who did not. That is because of allicin, a potent antibiotic that kills a variety of bacteria, viruses, fungi, molds, yeasts and parasites. Some of garlic's victims include H. pylori, Slamonella, staph, E. coli and Candida. Allicin is so powerful that it appears to conquer some infections that normally stand up to antibiotics.

This is helpful to remember when cooking hamburgers or other ground beef dishes. If E. coli is present in undercooked meat, it can cause severe illness and even death. Researchers at Kansas State University recently discovered that adding three to five teaspoons of garlic powder to two pounds of ground beef helps protect you against E. coli poisoning.

7. Intensifies Your Immune System
Tired of blowing your nose? Reach for garlic instead of a box of tissues. Garlic boosts your immune system, so you are less likely to get sick with colds or flu. Once again, the sulfur compounds in garlic do the work by prodding your immune cells into action. Garlic also makes you sweat, which is one of your body's ways to get rid of waste.

8. Stamps out Blood Sugar
Worried about diabetes? Garlic also lowers your blood sugar. High blood sugar is a key symptom of diabetes. Inn fact, because garlic also lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, adding some to your diet might help if you are diabetic or at risk of developing diabetes.

9. Rubs out Rheumatoid Arthritis
If your body has low levels of antioxidants and selenium, you could be at greater risk for rheumatoid arthritis. Because garlic contains plenty of both, it can help stop this form of arthritis before it starts.
