I am only 16, female, and is gonna go off alone (with parents permision) to go live in a homestay in Saskatchewan. I've been looking and searching it on the internet, and I got a responce from a guy who has a rent available for me. I told him that I was only 16, and I that I was looking for a homestay, (because 16 year old can't legal sign a lease), but he said it's a house (with a room for me, that's what I'm guessing) and if I can pay the weekly fee to him, he sees no problem in that.

IS it "no problem"?.... like, I don't want to do it if it's illigal, but if it's perfectly legal, then I'm up for it. What do you think I should do? I'm gonna call him on phone for more info later on....

so is living in a house, while im 16, and paying a rent fee to the owner of the house.... legal? kinda similar to a homestay..

and by the way, this has nothing to do with this question kinda, but if I were to own a cell phone for 2 years, how much would a approx cell phone bill cost? per month?

Under no circumstance should you consider renting a room in a house with people you don't know. You could disappear in the middle of the night, carried out against your will. If your parents are not willing to be parents, sue them. Or, see if social services can find you a suitable home until you are a legitimate adult.

As a 16 yr old female, you are definitely a target. You need to check out anyplace you stay very well before you do anything.

The better bet is the homestay program -- see the link below. The program will likely do a search on anyone they are going to have you live with -- you are more likely to find a safe place to stay.

As to the cell phone, it depends on the usage. You should look up the providers in the area (Saskatchewan if that is where you are going) and see what their rates are. Add 20% for taxes and other fees. But this is only good if you don't spend too much time on the phone.

There is a HUGE difference between HOME STAY and renting a room.

In home stay situation, your host becomes your new parents. While they will have no legal guardianship or parental rights over you, they will assume the role of parents to guarantee your safety and look after you. Also, the host family don't get paid for their services; while they sometimes get compensated for expenses.

If you rent a room, you get a landlord. That is it. Yes, it is legal to do it. Any person can sign a lease, except your signature is not worth anything since you are a minor. When an adult accepts minor's signature, they are agreeing to rent you something knowing he/she can not hold you responsible for anything. Hardly a good position to be (for him) - which leads me to wonder, what is he after??

If this sounds suspecious to you... yes, you are correct. While his intentions may be to just get rent from you, the possibilities for bad things happening to you are endless. I wouldn't take that chance.

You cannot own a cell phone for the same reason you can't sign a legal document. Your parents can do that for you under their names. You should just add up the monthly fees to get to the approximate cost.

it not illegal. however this sounds strange because if i were him i would want you to sign a lease (or your parents) so i could gave a guarantee i could get the money from you. also, as a renter myself, i think you would feel better to have a lease too so he legally cant just kick you out or go through your stuff. i know you cant sign a lease agreement but your parents can on your behalf. im not sure if you have graduated from highschool but here if you have you can pretty much sign anything with the exception of a credit card agreement. what you planning is not illlegal, but i do reccomend a lease of somesort.

People rent rooms all the time, it is not illegal to rent a room from someone.

Cell Phone~ it depends on what server you use, where you are, and how many minutes you use as to how much it will cost. i have 3000 min and pay $150 for where i live.
