Hey there!

Here's the answer.

7=7(2b+5)-6(b+8) --> Write the problem.
7=14b+35-6b-48 --> Distribute 7 to 2b+5 and distribute -6 to b+8.
7=14b-6b+35-48 --> Gather the b terms together and the constant terms together.
7=8b-13 --> Simplify the above equation.
20=8b --> Add 13 to both sides of the equation.
20/8=b --> Divide 8 on both sides of the equation.
2.5=b --> Change 20/8 into a decimal.
b=2.5 Use symmetric property of equality i.e. if a=b, then b=a.

So the answer is b=2.5

Hope it helps!

7 = 7(2b+5)-6(b+8) remove the parentheses.

7 = 14b+35-6b-48

7-35+48 = 14b-6b then, combined like terms.

20 = 8b

b = 20/8 divide 20 by 8.

b = 2.5 ....... answer.

To check, substitute the value of b:

7 = 7(2b+5)-6(b+8)

7= 7(2(2.5) +5) - 6(2.5 + 8)

7 = 7(5 + 5) - 15+ 48

7 = 35+35 - 63

7= 70 - 63

7 = 7

LHS = RHS

b=5/2

For any algebra problem when you only have constants and first-order variables (ie b is not squared or cubed or anything like that) your goal is to get all the constants on one side, and variables (the b) on the other. To do that, first distribute the 7 and the -6. This changes the equation to 7 = (14b + 35) + (-6b -48) Don't forget to distribute the negative. Combine like terms (the constant's and the b's) so you get 7 = 8b - 13. Now add 13 to both sides, to get 20 = 8b. Divide both sides by 8, and you get 5/2 after simplifying.

Okay well you have to solve for b so:
1. first use, i think it's called distribution, and multiply what's inside the parenthesis with the numbers next to it. so first: 7(2b+5)= 7(2b)+7(5)=14b+35.
And 6(b+8)= 6(b)+6(8)=6b+48. So it becomes 7=(14b+35)-(6b+48)
2. Then you multiply -(6b+48). The "-" is equal to negative one. So it equals -(6b) and -(48) which equals -6b-48. So it becomes 7=(14b+35)-6b-48.
3. Then you add or subtract like terms: (14b-6b)+(35-48). This becomes 8b+(-13) Which is the same as 8b-13.
4. 7=8b-13. You add 13 to both sides, and you get 20=8b.
5. You divide 8 by both sides: 20/8=b. and that's your answer. You can reduce it to2 and 1/2 or 2.5=b

Expand the right side to get

7= 14b+35-6b-48

Now combine the b's 14b-6b=8b and the numbers 35-48=-13

7=8b-13 now add 13 to both sides

20=8b

20/8=b after you divide both sides by 8

5/2=b after reduction
