Why would anyone need a 27in color TV after a hurricane and there was no electricity to plug it into anyhow. Those people robbed and looted because they could and because they were dishonest and weak of character. As for needing food and diapers for their children, HELLO, they had 5 DAYS before Katrina hit to stock up on the necessary supplies or get out of town which is what a MANDATORY evacuation means. Having been to NO in the aftermath of Katrina I can tell you that there is a large percentage of the population the is lazy, uneducated and sit on their asses with their hands out expecting everything for free. I'm sorry if that sounds heartless, but it's true and I've seen it firsthand. The looting and robbing was totally unnecessary.

Nope. I would have been upstate as soon as I heard a hurricane was coming. I would have peaced out even if I had to walk. I got to see what happened to the guy that stayed near Mt. St. Helens when the mayor (or Governor I can't remember) told him to evacuate.
But if I were stuck in a situation where I needed to survive you'd better believe I'd go so far as to kill a dolphin with a spoon if I need some meat to live.

The people there did not have much choice.

Those who could evacuate did so ... millions of them.
But according to the Census, New Orleans has one of the poorest populations in the country.

This means it was predictable that people are living on welfare, their money runs out before end of month, so they have no money for gasoline, bus far, or whatever to get out of town.

Stock up on 5 days food, 10 days food, makes no difference when all that food is now under water, water contaminated by all kinds of chemicals.

They wake up in middle of night to find the water rising ... they flee to the roof ... any food they had, anything in refrigerator is under many feet of water ... they have no food, they have no fresh water.

What I think should have been done, when they found stores above water, would have been to get something to write on & leave at the store a note.

I _____ (give my name & address), took from your store _____ (list of what was taken) so here is an IOU for the $ ____ total. Make 2 copies of this, keep one, leave one at the store where it probably not get wet.

Then in the aftermath, return to the store with your copy & pay the proprietor for what was taken.

As much as I might want to leave a check for the $ total ... when you are in bed & are woken up by the rising waters, and you grab something so you 1/2 way decent, when scrambling onto the roof, taking your wallet or check book, or even a pen to write with, does not seem like what might be thought about.

at the start they are taught as young ones approximately respecting others and respecting others components.Like we use to do back interior the 40s and 50's. 2nd if human beings have appreciate for their government and that they're going to look after them quickly together as they positioned each thing back at the same time then you are much less possibly to get people who panic and that they're going to proceed to be calm and do what they could do.in case you have a society like u.s. has become the place some human beings are already based on the government then the government isn't able to fulfill your desires it quickly breaks down.

What other people do has little effect on my actions. After the hurricane, it would be necessary to survive. If it meant taking things from a store to stay alive, then yes. However, to seal things just to have things, absolutely not. Only thing for survival.

I wouldn't want some one to loot my home or business so why would I do that to another person who is already suffering from a tragedy.

Hard to say. IF I needed food, water, medical supplies I might "help myself" to what I needed. But to take electronics, and toys, and the other stuff we saw the looters carrying off - no. My parents raised me with better morals than that!

The most shameful was the two fat female cops pushing their shopping cart cart around "just takin' care o' bizniss". I guess their badges read "To Protect And Serve....Myself".

Possibly, but only food (not the TVs, etc that were stolen by and large) and I would keep tabs on what it was so I could settle later.

No. If you saw an older lady get beat up, would you then steal her purse as she wouldn't notice?
Being honest, is doing the right thing, when no one is looking, and not bragging about it.
