You need a router. It can be a wireless router or you can get a router and a wireless access point.

The modem internet feed plugs into router WAN port. The XP pc network port plugs into the router LAN port. Set the XP network to obtain IP address dymanimcally as the router manual will direct you.

I presume you have a dynamic IP from your ISP. Configure the WAN for a dynamic IP in that case. If you have PPPoE then config the WAN for PPPoE as your router manual directs.

Configure LAN ports to provide IP addresses via DHCP as router manual directs.

Now check for internet connection on the XP. If you have it, then proceed to configure wireless as manual directs. Configure wireless using a wired connector. Include security steps (WPA2 if it has it and use a long preshare key that you record in writing). Use MAC address validation as the manual directs.

Now try the wireless connector. If it works you are in business; if not troubleshoot by checking manual or by writing here as a new message.

It is not that hard; just take it one step at a time..

you're getting the information from one source, by your cyber web connection and your prompt router. If greater suitable than one person is pulling information from an identical get admission to ingredient, there is far less bandwidth accessible to all human beings at that ingredient. once you play on line, do not run different cyber web-related purposes on an identical time. the fewer call for that's placed on your cyber web connection, the swifter your DS connection would be. besides, your laptop isn't meant to be as cellular as your DS, so connect your computer to the router immediately by an ethernet cable.
