Here is the real deal. Bush should have went on TV and told the truth: effective counterinsurgency campaigns take hundreds of thousands of troops, and can take 10 years or more. Instead, he and Rummy and Darth Cheney decided to pretend there was no insurgency, and when they could no longer deny it they continued to paint everything as rosy.

I do not support the war A) because there is no evidence that our tactical gains (small as they are) are being translated into strategic gains, and B) because the American people will not support an open ended commitment of the size and duration it would take to have anything like a "victory".

No, no, you completely misunderstand. Anything a Democrat/liberal says or does in relation to Iraq emboldens the enemy. Anything a conservative/republican does is perfectly ok.

I don't think they need anymore reasons to be emboldened.

The bottom line is the Iraqi government doesn't want us there, the American people don't want to be there and we are accomplishing nothing. Time to go!
