I classify the rock according to the two broad categories: Siliclastics and Chemical Precipitates. With siliclastics I look at the grain size, sorting, roundness, stratification and other physical properties. With chemical precipitates I separate them into Carbonates and Evaporties. Since evaporties are a small part of chemical precipitates I just identify mineral(s). With carbonates I identify the type (limestone or dolostone) and then do a process similar to the siliclastics, using either the Folk or Dunham schemes to classify the rocks. I am not a big fan of sedimentary rocks, although I do like finding fossils.

sedimentary rock is layers of sand, fossils, and sea shells all compressed together to form a sedimentary layer of rock. for example line stone is a sedimentary rock if you would look at the line stone you can see all the small particles of sediment and other tiny fossils.and when the layers of sediment are under pressure it cause the sediments to
become hard like rock. I like sedimentary rocks whey have all kinds of interesting things in them you never know what you can find if you break a lime stone apart.
