If race of the cosplayer were limited to the race of the characters, then only Asian folks would get to cosplay much. All the white folks would be stuck being the "wacky American" character that many series have (Tina from Ai Yori Aoshi, Sarah from Love Hina, etc.).
I don't think it matters what your skin color is; go for it.

you want honesty so do what ever you feel like, dont think of what other people say

Not at all. The meaning of cosplay is to show appreciation for a certain character. Go for it! ^_^
NB: But why Kikyo? Kagome's outfit is so much cuter.

Why the hell not? 'm guessin this is anime..in anime all the characters tend to look white becuase of different eye and hair colours but, they are really asian. But that doesn't stop the white kids from dressing up like them does it? Even if I'm white I wouldn't think it was strange at all for you to dress up like that, I mean if people could only dress like characters if they really resembled them, millions of fat nerds would be left unable to go to star trek convensions! lol!

Not! I've seen tons of pictures from conventions where African Americans when as white characters. *pokes A.A.* (See, I'm all against the whole "black; white" thing.)
