I can't believe these answers. Half of them aren't even remotely punk. Listen up and listen here, I'm gonna hook you up with good sh*t, the real sh*t.
If you're into hardcore punk, deffinitely check out Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains. I'm not huge on Bad Brains, but Dead Kennedys is the best!!!!!!!
If you like the British sound, like a lot of people have already mentioned, The Clash is the way to go. Sex Pistols are great as well. A lot of people like the Ramones, however I hate them with a passion. But they are so popular for a reason, so I guess you should try them out too. Also, you might want to check out The Buzzcocks and Alternative TV. They are great bands as well.
Now for the modern punk...
Bad Religion, Anti Flag, Pennywise, Rancid, Operation Ivy, the Offspring, NOFX, MXPX, Green Day's older works, Against All Authority, and Gogol Bordello.
You'll either love Gogol Bordello, or you'll hate em. I happen to be on the love side.
Fall out boy IS NOT PUNK. My Chemical Romance IS NOT PUNK. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is a 12 year old girl who watches MTV.
