What I'm asking is if they went over there to see the troops. It's impossible that they would go over there with out a ton of security but I think it would be nice for them to see what the troops really go through. I definitely respect those candidates that have REAL military experiance.

It would be a nice thing. It would be helpful for them to talk with the troops and find out the real situation, and not what the MSM reports.

Still, it takes a lot more than that for me to respect some candidates.

Did you see when McCain went to Iraq to show how "safe" it was? He was wearing body armour, was surrounded by marines, and had a helicopter flying overhead. Thats safe?
I think at this point, it is just political posturing for a candidate to go to Iraq. John Kerry is a vietnam veteran.. as a fellow vietnam veteran, I respect him a lot more. He actually saw combat. Bush hid even from the national guard. He is a coward and an idiot.
I could maybe respect him a little if he had actual military service.
But, no, I don't think that I could gain respect from a candidate just for going to Iraq.

I can't say that would cause me to have any more or any less respect for a candidate. Traveling to Iraq or Afghanistan to "meet the troops" isn't a bold and brave move on their part, and the extra protection they require simply causes more stress and strain on the military personnel they come in contact with.

If they went over as a candidate looking for votes or to stick their nose where it doesn't belong and then ask stupid questions like; Where is the blue-print for the withdrawal contingency plan?, I must place our troops in more harm by letting the terrorists know just what to expect! That request made me loose what respect I had!!!!
