Wired Home Network with an XP and a 98SE?

I have a cable internet connection going from the modem into a wireless router and out to an XP computer. A laptop picks up the wireless network, but i also have a 98SE computer two floors above the router which is not wireless compatible. The router has four ports for ethernet cables. The 98SE computer has no ethernet port so would it work if i ran an ethernet cable up two floors into a ethernet --> USB 2.0 converter then into the computer's USB port? If not, are there other ways i can get internet acess on the 98SE computer?

I would purchase an ethernet card and put it in the Win 98 machine. After installing the drivers, plug the cat5 into it and you are in business.

I have seen way too many problems with Ethernet to USB interfaces to like them. With a Win 98 machine which likely has USB 1.0 the problems are substantial. I suspect you can buy a 10/100 ethernet pci NIC card for under $20 too.

I would not put a wirless network card in the Win 98 machine - the distance (2 flights) may be a problem, and things like ducts are likely to also interfere.
