Start with the basics...

Switch off the mains socket. Check all the cables are pushed home fully. Really try to force the plugs into the sockets in the computer case. Wiggle them a bit to seat them. Switch on the mains socket again. Retry the computer.

Switch off and unplug the computer plug. Change the fuse for one that you know works. Depending on the power supply unit in the computer, you'll need either a 3A or 5A rated fuse.

See what is in the plug and use that as a guide. Never put in a higher rated fuse than the original.

Okay, try it again.

At this stage, if the computer is under warranty, contact the tech support people and ask for guidance.

If this doesn't help, switch off the mains socket - don't unplug it and open the computer case. Touch the metal frame of the computer - this will help to reduce damage by static electricity. Even though it's switched off, the computer is still earthed to protect you. Carefully ensure that all the plugs you can see are firmly pushed home - take care as you do this as damage here is permanent. Everything should push home easily but if you encounter a lot of resistance, stop pushing.

Replace the case, switch on the Mains and try again.

If still no joy, suspect the PSU has packed up. You can usually pick these up for about £20 from any good Computer Store but spend the extra and get a good quality one that's £30 or £40. Also, if you have a 350W model, consider a 400W replacement - that gives you a little extra power if you need it.

If you replace the PSU and it still doesn't work, then suspect the motherboard has failed. If you feel up to replacing it go ahead but if not, a local computer shop should be able to do this for you.

If it's an old computer, the mobo may be discontinued and you may have to buy a new mobo, cpu and fan and new RAM - just so you know. It can get expensive.

But try the low cost/zero cost stuff first.

could be a few things. if your getting no elctrical lights come on at all then the power pack may have blown. or sometimes its a cut off if you dont use your computer for a while it automatically shuts itself down for energy saving mode.
try turning the mains off and turning for 1 min and turn back on and make sure the plug to the back of your tower is fully in.
if none of these work the try holding the power on button for 5 seconds and see if it boots, remember to listen out for the beep which tells you the hard drive has kicked in, iof you dont hear this from inside the tower theres a chance that your hard drive has blown. hope this helps

Have you checked the electrical circuit this computer is plugged into? Take a look at the breaker box to see if the breaker has flipped or, with an older system, if the fuse is dead. It happens readily in the summer when ACs are on high.

Its a power problem.
If you are halfway competent you could try opening up the case and CAREFULLY cleaning the fans inside at the cpu and power supply unit.

Sometimes the dust build up causes the power supply to overheat and shut itself down, leaving it for a while and cleaning sometimes sorts it.

If that doesn't work then you may need a need power supply, they are reasonably cheap and fairly easy to fit.
Don't just rush out and buy a new PC

Take it to a computer shop and they'll fix it.

And...(not to the asker) to the people that answer, dont say stuff like "how are you on the internet if your computers broken"

They are probably using a friend's computer or they are at the library.

WELL. THE MOST POSSIBLE REASONS FOLLOW:

SWITCH ON THEN,

(1) CHECK IF THE COOLING FAN OF YOUR COMPUTER POWER SUPPLY (SMPS) IS MOVING.

IF YES: GO TO STEP (2)
IF NO: (A) CHECK THE POWER CORD (MAINS) - THE CORD THAT CONNECTS YOUR PC TO THE MAIN ELECTRICAL SUPPLY. OR, (B) REPLACE ANOTHER MAIN CORD OR, (C) CHECK IF THE SWITCH IN THE ELECTRICAL BOARD IS OK - TRY ANOTHER ELECTRICAL DEVICE IN THE SAME SOCKET.

(2) CHECK IF THE RAM IS OK, SOMETIME IT GETS LOOSE OR DEFECTIVE - ACT ACCORDING TO ITS STATE. IF THE RAM IS DEFECTIVE REPLACE IT OR LOOSE FROM ITS BASE OR NOT GETTING CONNECTED WITH THE BASE DUE TO DUST OR SULPHATE ON THE CONTACT POINTS, CLEAN. ELSE GO TO (3)

(3) CHECK IF THE DISPLAY/MONITOR IS OK ELSE (4)

(4) CHECK IF THE MOTHER BOARD IS OK. ELSE (5)

(5) CALL A SERVICE ENGINEER/EXPERT.

I HOPE PERFORMING THE ABOVE, THE PC WILL BE OK.

Are you getting a blew screen if so this is probably hardware failure.
But! you will most probably have a virus or deleted a system file sutch as a startup one?
Use system restore if its not working just back-up everything and repair or re-install.

Could be that the power supply has failed or it could be a short circuit elsewhere. I think you probably need professional help with this one.
