In an endeavour to answer your question I have thought about what type of person would fear other people having an opinion and I have to say that the instinct seems to me to be the same instinct that makes a child cover their ears and make silly sounds in order to block what they don't want to hear. On a slightly more adult level i think right wing inclinations seem very selfish (again childlike) the philosophy that makes one fearful of what you don't know or understand must be an opinion motivated by selfish greed. Pure bullish narrow minded bigotry. When will they understand that no one is going to take their 'sweets'. Because of their childish, selfish tendencies they are closed to new ideas that could improve life for everyone, a fear of change (which is actually just a human trait) is one that has to be overcome in order to make the world a better place for all. Conservative/right wing thinking, when paralleled with how children behave, would be bullying (I'm more powerful than you, therefore I am unable and unwilling to entertain your notions), along with an inability to share, the con thinking to me is like a child who has a 50kg bag of sweets but wraps his arms around it and sits in his corner refusing to let anyone come near because they fear not having the most, but if they would at least entertain the noition that they could share some with other children, make them happy, and still have the most appears beyond their selfish thinking. The fact is that in order to develop we have to accept change. and consequently in order to change and develop we have to entertain notions that may not be in our current thinking.

What others' choose to do isn't important, and certainly NOT more important than the choices we make for ourselves... to be part of the problem or part of the solution (yeah, I slip sometimes; we all do).

The cornerstone of free speech is to not only exercise the right, but also with equal conviction, to support the right for those with whom you disagree. It's not easy to be an American, but to do otherwise is to be no more than a bully! Sadly, some don't know the difference between being an American and being a bully... but they only made the choice for themselves, they can't make the choice for anyone else.

BTW... I'm a Libertarian, so 'cons' and 'libs' feel free to vote 'bad answer' now with a clear conscience :-)

Political Correctness is the Conservative way of censoring unfastened speech and bullying individuals into thinking like Conservatives. look at what the GOP and Conservatives have accomplished to Sesame highway and different infants' exhibits, and look how Conservatives have actually murdered Christmas via bullying human beings into saying "satisfied trip journeys". we are able to no longer flow the Liberal direction-it is discern out our top to unfastened speech. No,the Cons have taken away our rights to unfastened speech and are punishing us for attempting to have rights. collectively as the Liberals save scuffling with to guard usa,the Cons save slamming their iron fists into our faces and forcing us to be politically best 24/7.

Free speech means you have a right to receive criticism if your ideas are bad.

Why are you being so critical of conservatives? What about their rights to free speech? Why don't you debate actual issues rather than point the "hypocrite!" finger?

Wow... are you serious? I wonder who was fired for his comments on the radio not too long ago? I wonder why it is when reputable people bring up the "other" side of the farce that is "man made" global warming they are shut out and immediately discredited? And, I wonder which party is trying to shut down Talk Radio with the "Fairness Doctrine"?

Any answers?

i think sean hannity/limbaugh/oreilly have brainwashed them into thinking that it was a patriotic thing to do. People are calling me a liberal, when i quote Thomas Jefferson, or talk about freedom. It is crazy!

Real conservatives are LIBERTARIANS

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism" -Ronald Reagan.

The truth is both far left liberals & far right conservatives want to silence people who speak out against their beliefs.

Why can't liberals understand that freedom of speech isn't only for them? It goes both ways. They can say what they want, I can say what I want. If I say something you disagree with, and you tell me you disagree, then you aren't inhibiting my freedom of speech in any way, shape or form.

There is nothing on that post that limits freedom of speech.
