Does anyone understand why it so popular?

I think mainly because it is such an unrealistic escape and it has been the biggest reading craze for kids. I only read the books to see what the fuss was about at fist and I like them.

I wouldn't say they are outstanding or life-changing, and it is obvious that J.K Rowling has been "influenced" by a number of authors and the concept of teenage witches and wizards is REALLY unoriginal, but they are not terribly written, and I do enjoy reading them.

I'm glad they got kids reading, though. I'm 14 and most of my classmates at school had probably never picked up a book until they heard of Harry Potter (then again, they most probably still haven't read more than a page).

All the same, as much as I like them, I'm not camping out on the street outside the nearest bookshop to buy the latest book for £17.99. There are limits!

You obviously haven't read the books, I am not a book person but for some strange reason when I read Harry Potter I just can't put it down! I think if you read the book after watching the film it helps you fit things together. I think J.K Rowling is very talented (she is v.rich so is doing something right!!)

Yes, i care! i think it's because it's a place where people can go away to get away from the world of poltics and depression. It's complicated everybody has there own opions. it started off with kids and there fantasy world, but ended up with a world in love with harry potter. i don't really know. but i think it's a way to get away from the world. the actors in the movie have done such a great job of producing a different world of excitement and a dream world that we all want and can't get a enough of.

It has tens of thousands of children reading books, in an age when they are generally stuck in front of mindless computer and video games. For that reason alone it is a great thing.

As an adult I enjoyed them too, so yes I can understand why they are so popular. They help unlock the imagination of young and old alike, something a computer or video box can never do.

Very clever to ask this question when everyone who cares about Harry Potter is at the midnight parties...

Couldn't give half a turd personally. Got better things to think about than the shernanigans of a boy wizard and his creepy friends. I'm sure the've got a good reason for waiting for days in the pouring rain for a book to be released - but what a bunch of nerds!

Harry Potter is written by the best aurthor in britan (my opinion)
it is so mystical, and engadging she just opens a new world.
It's popular because children love things like this but so do adults!

No to both. The marketing for the book is fantastic though...for people to go through such length for the books. I don't bother reading the books myself but I do watch the film when I can.

At least it encourages young kids to read again, which is really great.
